Within just one day we were able to make this nice 90 year old ladies dentures fit like brand new. She was booked in the morning to have impressions taken in her ill fitting and heavily worn down dentures where the back of the dentures was nearly broken away due to long term use. Do note that we did not make her this set of dentures and hence the dentures are quite heavily discolored along the base of them. What we did was do a new fitting surface under the current set of dentures which she feels quite comfortable with at age 90. Also by doing a new fitting surface under the dentures we added some length to the dentures and cut away some of the old acrylic which made things bulkier than they needed to be. As a result this brought her teeth lower from the top jaw and higher up from the bottom jaw. This means that she also shows more teeth to help compensate for the wear on her dentures.
Our mouths do slowly change shape over time and our dentures often need to be reshaped to match our mouth shape. This happens more rapidly after you have tooth extractions but slows there after. Because a denture is molded to the shape of your mouth when it is made it will not fit you correctly some years down the track. It is best advised that you have your dentures checked every 3 years to make sure that they are suitabel to fit you and last their longest.
