Do you wake up with a headache around the temple (temporalis region)? Do you have a sore jaw? When you open your jaw the full way does your jaw joint jump or pop? Do you have sensitive teeth from cracks and chips in your teeth? Has anyone told you that you crunch your teeth together at night time? Are your teeth getting all flat, smooth and shorter? You might be clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth together at night time and might not be aware of it. These are just a few of the symptoms caused by teeth grinding and clenching of the jaw at night.
In severe cases people do this during the day too. But it gets better when you see us. We can make a nightguard which you would wear over either your top or bottom teeth in order to open the bite and prevent costly damage to the teeth or jaw joint. We can measure your mouth using an intraoral scanner, manufacture on site in our own dental laboratory a nightguard using high grade and comfortable materials and fit you with an appliance to treat the condition. We make the nightguard to not only prevent damage resulting from the clenching and tooth grinding but also to retrain the jaw to reduce day time teeth grinding too.
You will wake up feeling refreshed, pain free and well rested. You will be able to chew your food without such severe pain and discomfort. You don’t have to put up with this condition. By taking action now and seeing us for a night guard you can avoid further damage to your teeth and prevent future tooth loss. As a Clinical Dental Technician of many years I know all too well that clenching your jaws at night and grinding the teeth together with pressure is a teeth killer. I see many clients who have damaged teeth and lost teeth as a result of the medical condition referred to as Bruxism.
If a nightguard is not worn some people develop arthritis in their jaw joint which gets even more painful. They wear through their condylar disk in the jaw joint (Temporomandibular Joint) and require very expenisve surgery or go on a multiyear long waiting list in the public health system where their condition only worsens. This is a highly treatable condition which many people live with daily and loose teeth and sleep over.
Clenching and tooth grinding are caused by the Gnathostomatic system. A structure of muscle and jaw joint which Khush and his team have done indepth study of over many years. We are able to restore function to the system which you heavily rely on by making a nightguard. We even wear them ourselves and are able to advise you well on what type of apppliance will work well in treating your TMJ dysfunction all during a FREE Consultation at our clinic in Papatoetoe, Auckland.
The picture above is a fixed bridge which was made for a client who lost all of their teeth. A major contributing factor was clenching and grinding their teeth. They unfortunately did not get a nightguard made sooner but we made one to go over the permanently fixed denture in their mouth before they damage more teeth or the permanent denture. The nightguard will stop the damage and help with the jaw aches associated with that. They had to have a painful and costly prosthetic made to replace their own teeth but if they wore a night guard they would not have needed the fixed bridge.
